Tesla CEO Elon Musk says DOGE is being blamed on ‘silly misconceptions’, ‘For example…’
Elon Musk refuted claims that his government task force, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), cut Congressional internships, clarifying that individual representatives handle those. While initially set to end in 2026, DOGE will now continue until 2028, with Musk reducing his involvement to focus on his businesses.
Some silly misperceptions are happening that are being blamed on @DOGE.
For example, a friend’s daughter was recently told that Congressional internships were cut by DOGE, which is false.
The tech billionaire did not say where the rumor started but he made it clear that DOGE had nothing to do with Congressional internships being cut.
DOGE was set up by an executive order that President Donald Trump signed on January 22 to find ways to make the government work better and more efficiently. Musk has been closely involved with the task force but recently said he plans to step back to spend more time on his businesses.
During the first-quarter earnings call last month, Musk said that his time with DOGE will reduce ‘significantly’ starting this month. In a candid interview with reporters at the White House this week, he stated that DOGE “is a way of life, like Buddhism”. When asked about his departure from DOGE and the task force’s future without him, he said, “Is Buddha needed for Buddhism?”.
“Was it not stronger after he passed away?”, he asked.
DOGE was originally set up to terminate on July 4, 2026. It will now reportedly continue till the end of 2028. Asked about the possibility of extending DOGE's mandate, Musk responded, "I think so," adding, "It's up to the president.”
