Siblings arrested for running three-number lottery business in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: The Rathinapuri police in Coimbatore city arrested a man and his brother for running the banned three-number lottery business.
The arrested men have been identified as M Rajasekar, 37, and his younger brother M Kannan, 33. They hail from Narayanasamy Layout Second Cross at Rathinapuri. Police said the duo started 15 WhatsApp groups to run the three-number lottery business and added many people as members of the groups.
The members were asked to select three numbers between 000 and 999 every day. Based on the Kerala state govt’s lottery results, they used to provide prize amounts to the winners. Every day, transactions to the tune of more than Rs 5 lakh were seen in their bank accounts.
Rathinapuri police inspector Ibrahim Badhusha and team came to know about the illegal business and arrested the duo on Saturday night. They were remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
The police seized 213 grams of gold ornaments and two mobile phones from them.
