Mapusa: Some unknown persons laid a ‘nail trap’ on the Mandrem-Parcem road stretch apparently with the intention of committing robberies. This sparked fear and outrage, among locals. The traps were laid on the stretch between Sacha Bhatle, Mandrem and Ajyacha Hol, Parcem on Friday.
Also ropes were found along both sides of the road. Locals fear this could be a form of looting after puncturing tyres of vehicles passing over the wooden planks.
The incident came to light when an employee of a firm returning home at around 2 am on his 2-wheeler noticed the trap.
He immediately retreated from the spot and alerted Mandrem villagers.
“We suspect that the culprits could be familiar with the area as stray dogs did not bark at them,” a local said.
Local panch Prashant Naik strongly demanded that the police should take immediate action in the matter.
“Shockingly, after a separate police station was formed for Mandrem, the crime graph, especially of theft cases, have increased. Police should intensify patrolling in this area,” Naik said.
