Shariq MajeedLudhiana: Deputy commissioner (DC) Himanshu Jain announced the closure of all schools in the district on May 9 and 10. The order applies to both government and private schools.Responding to TOI's queries about preparations on the ground, the deputy commissioner said, "All the departments have been alerted and emergency response systems are in place. The district administration is working in close coordination with authorities, including defence authorities." He added that a 24x7 dedicated control room has been set up in the DC office.The deputy commissioner urged citizens to exercise restraint and avoid panic buying, emphasising that the administration was fully prepared to manage any emergency. He assured that there was no need to fear, as the administration was well-equipped with robust emergency response systems and ample stocks of essential goods and commodities.He said that all departments were on alert and working in close coordination with relevant authorities to ensure seamless operations. He also called on residents to remain calm, make thoughtful purchasing decisions, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain order and safety.An official of the district administration warned residents against believing rumours and said that action could be taken against those found spreading them.In the meantime, as announced by the district administration, a blackout was carried out in 11 areas, mostly on the outskirts of the city, from 8pm to 8.30pm on Wednesday night. Most of these areas were in Dakha; including Bhanohar, Hasanpur in Baddowal, Rurka, Jangpur, Khadoor, Adda City Dakha, Ajitsar in City Adda Dakha, Issewal, Gahaur, Detwal, Baraich, Mullanpur, Kailpur, Boothgarh-Dakha, including Badowal cantonment area, etc. DSP Dakha, Varinder Singh Khosa, said the blackout was carried out at the specified time in specific areas.MSID:: 121000738 413 |
