Gujarat: 7 Pakistanis to be sent back in 48 hours

Following a directive from the Union government, Gujarat's home department has initiated the process of identifying and deporting Pakistani nationals. Seven individuals on short-term visas will be deported within 48 hours, while authorities are also identifying 438 Pakistani citizens on long-term visas. The government clarified that Pakistani Hindu refugees will not be harassed during this process.

GANDHINAGAR: Following a Union govt directive to revoke visas of all Pakistani nationals, the state home department has begun an exercise to identify and deport such individuals living in the state.
Sources in the state home department said that seven Pakistan nationals who are in the state on a short-term visa will be deported within 48 hours. Police officials of all districts and city commissionerates have been asked to identify about 438 Pakistani nationals who are in the state on long-term visas. These 438 include Hindus who returned from Pakistan and applied for Indian citizenship.

Speaking at Vadodara, minister of state for home Harsh Sanghavi on Friday said, "All Pakistanis who arrived in Gujarat under various visa categories will be sent back according to an ultimatum issued by the Union govt." The minister clarified that Pakistani Hindus, who are refugees in the state, will not be harassed in any manner.
"Pakistani citizens who came to Gujarat under various visa categories will be asked to leave the country before the set deadline. The SOG and special branch of the police have begun the process of deporting such persons from the country," Sanghavi said.
The Union govt stated earlier that several kinds of visas issued to Pakistani citizens will expire on April 27, while medical visas will expire on April 29.
According to information provided by state home department sources, of the 438 Pakistanis in Gujarat on a long-term visa, the highest number are in Ahmedabad at 77, followed by 50 in Kutch, and 44 in Surat. Seven Pakistani citizens are in Gujarat on a short-term visa, of which five are in Ahmedabad, while one each is in Bharuch and Vadodara.
Surat police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut told reporters that the special branch is gathering information on the number of Pakistani citizens residing in Surat and how many of these are on long-term visas, tourist visas, or student visas. "We will provide this information to the home department and act according to its directions," he said.
Vadodara police commissioner Narsimha Komar said that an exercise to identify Pakistani nationals has begun.
