Lil Wayne shocks fans with new NFL announcement days after slamming the league over Super Bowl halftime snub

Lil Wayne has been in the news related to the NFL in the last few days. Recently, the famous rapper spoke to Rolling Stone as he slammed the league for choosing Kendrick Lamar over him to perform at Super Bowl LIX. While Super Bowl LIX ran into a lot of controversies, it seems like Lil Wayne’s connection to the NFL has just become stronger.


Recently, the NFL took to their social media accounts to announce a partnership with rapper Lil Wayne and the legendary sports heritage brand, Mitchell & Ness.
This unique collaboration will blend Lil Wayne’s style as well as Mitchell & Ness’ craftsmanship and quality to create exclusive limited-edition apparel collections - hoodies, tees, and jerseys.
The collection will be inspired by Lil Wayne’s yet to be released album “Tha Carter VI”. As Lil Wayne is known for being a die hard fan of the Green Bay Packers, the exclusive and limited edition collection is all about paying a tribute to the team.
Lil Wayne spoke about this collaboration with the NFL and Mitchell & Ness and said, “We had to create something that reps the G but still drips with that Tunechi flavor. It’s more than merch.”
The famous rapper added, “It represents legacy, loyalty and a little bit of luxury for the real ones."
Emilie Arel, the president of Mitchell & Ness, spoke about the unique and interesting partnership as she said, "This collaboration represents the essence of Mitchell & Ness – merging one of the most talented worldwide entertainers with iconic sports franchises and bold merchandise designs.”

As soon as the NFL announced the partnership on their social media accounts, fans expressed their excitement for it. A fan commented, “@liltunechi draft is in greenbay. Perfect time for another green and yellow song”, while another fan wrote, “Yessssss 💚💛💚💛💚”
However, many fans also trolled Lil Wayne since he was not chosen for the Super Bowl LIX’s half time performance. A fan wrote, “Should’ve had him for the halftime show a couple months ago 🤦🏻‍♂️”, while another fan made a sarcastic comment, ““hey sorry for not letting you perform the halftime show but check this out.””
Lil Wayne recently spoke about his experience of not being chosen for Super Bowl LIX’s half time performance and recalled that it had deeply “hurt” him.
While Kendrick Lamar took the stage for the half time performance, his performance ran into a lot of controversy as many believed the performance was too “focused” on Drake.
