Incels or involuntary celibates are getting more popular in India

The popular crime drama ‘Adolescence’ has been a wake-up call about how the online world of misogyny and self-loathing has sucked young teens in

'Sanskar’, as he is known online, is clear about one thing — he is not the kind of guy girls go for. “Girls want an extrovert dominant guy, which we are not,” says the engineering student.

The ‘we’ he is referring to are incels, a portmanteau of involuntary celibates. The term refers to men who are frustrated about not having found a romantic or sexual partner, and many blame ‘choosy’ women for this. Incels have been around for a while, but a gripping new show ‘Adolescence’ highlights how teens, who may not be very sociable or popular, are being sucked into this radicalised and misogynist world.
