Gulkand Movie Review : Wholesome entertainer that leaves a sweet impression
Critic's Rating: 3.5/5
The Dhavle and Mane families are set to be joined by the marriage of their children Minu (Jui Bhagwat) and Omkar (Tejas Raut). It is at the initial function that the families meet and realise that Omkar’s father (Prasad Oak) and Minu’s mother (Sai Tamankar) are estranged lovers. This leads to a lot of conflict within the families as their spouses are filled with doubt about them reconnecting. Hijinks and misadventures follow when Makrand (Samir Choughule) and Ragini (Esha Dey) team up to catch them red-handed.
Gulkand sees strong performance from a team packed with Maharashtrachi Hasya Jatra alums. The writing (Sachin Mote) and direction (Sachin Goswami) skillfully optimises each actor to their perfect role. Tamhankar and Oak have a unique chemistry, while the sheer comedic timing of Dey and the deadpan delivery from Sharvil Agathe has the audience rolling in the aisles. Samir Choughule is the undisputed MVP of this film. The innocence of his character endears us to the mindset of the oft-ignored family man. His misadventures with Ragini are a laugh riot. The film is a heartwarming journey through the complexities of love; sweetened by its comedic performances.
The direction, cinematography and editing are expertly executed, which allows for deep immersion into the worlds of these characters. A few dull moments aside, the plot of Gulkand effortlessly progresses from comedy to heartfelt confessions, offering a wholesome family viewing experience that is guaranteed to leave sweet and memorable thoughts in your heart.
